Group dinner at the office from summer internship at ARCAS in Paris.

ARCAS Paris

The University of Notre Dame School of Architecture stands as one of the oldest and most distinguished programs in the United States, built on the premise that classical and traditional architecture is not a style but a design approach and a cultural choice. The curriculum intertwines drawing, history and theory, building technology, and studio design across five years, with the third year spent entirely in Rome.

Students enter the program without required graphic skills. Over five years they develop mastery in hand drawing, technical drawing, watercolor rendering, and measured drawing before integrating digital tools in the fourth and fifth years. The hand is the primary instrument. Eye-hand coordination is the fastest and most comprehensive means by which anyone can relate to the physical world.

The work on this page comes from those five years. It is the record of someone learning to see.
