Denmark 2025

I flew from Orlando to Copenhagen with a connection in Toronto. After landing, I stored my bags in a locker at the central train station and spent the afternoon exploring before checking into my Airbnb. This is an easy and common setup in Europe and allowed me to make good use of the day.

I walked through the city center, along the harbor, and down Nyhavn with the colored buildings. I also took a boat tour through the canals, which gave a good overview of the city and its residential architecture. One of the buildings I had wanted to see for years was the power plant with the ski slope on top, and it was just as interesting in person as I thought.

My Airbnb was steps from the train station, filled with natural light, and very quiet. The host was from South Africa and kept a busy schedule, so the space felt private even though it was shared. Carrying luggage up four flights of stairs was fine on arriving, and much more difficult when I returned at the end of my Scandinavia tour with a full checked bag.

I used the Copenhagen Card for transportation and entry into sites, which made it easy to move around and see more than I would have otherwise. I visited the Louisiana Museum, initially for the architecture, but ended up spending just as much time with the art and the landscape. It was the highlight of my time in Denmark.

Food stood out more than I expected. A bakery across the city made rhubarb tarts and sold rhubarb juice; I went back for twice. I also had the best meal of the trip at Sanchez.

From Copenhagen I flew on to Stockholm, Sweden and then Tromso, Norway before returning to Copenhagen to fly home. I stayed with the same Airbnb host both times.

On my return to Copenhagen I took a day trip to Billund to visit the LEGO headquarters. It required a train and a bus combo four hours each way, and while the experience was well done, it is definitely more geared toward children. I spent about an hour and a half there compared to the four hours I had allotted, and headed back to Copenhagen early.

The last day of my trip I took the train from Copenhagen to Malmö, Sweden to see the Turning Torso and visit a sauna. I love sauna culture so much and it was the perfect end to a great two weeks.
